The Ministry of the Interior, in collaboration with the Diaspora Affairs Office at the Office of the President, has announced the commencement of vetting for applicants seeking Ghanaian citizenship under the “Historic Diaspora Community” initiative.
In a press statement issued Tuesday from Accra, the Ministry said applicants will be scheduled in batches for vetting at the DuBois Centre in Cantonments, Accra, beginning February 11, 2026.
The initiative forms part of government efforts to formalize citizenship for members of the historic diaspora community with ancestral ties to Ghana.
According to the statement, applicants are advised to wait for official notification from the Ministry regarding their specific vetting dates and times before reporting to the centre.
Authorities emphasized that this measure is intended to prevent overcrowding and ensure an orderly process.
The Ministry also acknowledged the overwhelming response to the programme.
Due to the high number of applications and the limited time available ahead of the ceremonial swearing-in slated for March 5, 2026, not all interested persons will be accommodated in the current phase of the process.
Officials assured applicants that further information regarding subsequent phases will be communicated in due course.
The full statement is available on the Ministry of the Interior’s website.
